Gordon Moore is an American businessman and co-founder of Intel Corporation. He was born on January 3, 1929, in San Francisco, California, and grew up in nearby Pescadero. Moore earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1950, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry and Physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1954.
In 1968, Moore co-founded Intel Corporation with Robert Noyce. The company started as a manufacturer of memory chips, but quickly expanded into microprocessors, which revolutionized the computing industry. Moore served as Intel’s executive vice president until 1975, and then as its president until 1979. He continued to serve as CEO until 1987, and as chairman of the board until 1997.
