Who is Evelyn Lozada?
Evelyn Lozada is an American television personality, model, spokesperson and author who was born on December 10, 1975, in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in The Bronx with her mother Sylvia Ferrer and her sister Sylvia. She is of Puerto Rican descent and was raised as a Roman Catholic.
Lozada moved to Miami in 2007 and worked as a secretary to an entertainment attorney and later became co-owner of Dulce, a shoe boutique. She rose to fame as one of the six main cast members of the VH1 reality series Basketball Wives, which followed the lives of wives, ex-wives, and girlfriends of professional basketball players. She appeared on all nine seasons of the show from 2010 to 2020.
Lozada also starred in other reality shows such as Ev and Ocho with her former husband Chad Johnson, Livin’ Lozada with her daughter Shaniece Hairston, and Iyanla: Fix My Life where she sought emotional healing with Iyanla Vanzant. She has also made guest appearances on various TV shows such as The Mo’Nique Show, Entertainment Tonight, The Real and Hollywood Medium.
Lozada has also written three novels with co-authors Courtney Parker and Holly Lorincz. Her first novel, The Wives Association: Inner Circle, was released in 2012 by Cash Money Content books. It tells the story of a young woman who marries a football star and forms a group of other sports wives called The Wives Association. Her second novel, The Perfect Date, was published in 2019 and her third novel, The Wrong Mr. Darcy, was published in 2020.
Lozada is also an activist who has posed for PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked than Wear Fur” campaign and launched the Turn Hurt Into Joy online campaign to raise money for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.
Lozada has two children: Shaniece Hairston (born in 1993) from a previous relationship with Jamal Hairston; and Leo Crawford (born in 2014) from her former engagement to Carl Crawford. She was also engaged to NBA player Antoine Walker from 1998 to 2008 and married to NFL player Chad Johnson from July to September 2012.
